Are you looking to cut your ironing time in half? Do you want clothes smoother on a deep level and be able to get rid of wrinkles in a flash?
Then one of the many Steam Generator Irons might be the thing for you. Let’s look at the difference between a Steam Generator Iron and a traditional iron.
Steam Generator Irons have a traditional-looking iron unit but, instead of a small water container within the iron, it is connected by a tube to a water tank (the steam generator). This water tank supplies the iron with pressurized steam which is measured in bar – the higher pressure your iron can produce the deeper the steam can penetrate into the material – thus making your ironing much easier and giving you a better result. The steam output from the iron is indicated in grams per minute (g/min) and you can choose models varying from 70-140 g/min.
As a result of this extra steam you could reduce your ironing time by half – and I am sure most of us would love to spend our evenings doing something other than ironing!
There are a few things to consider when choosing your steam generator iron. Most steam generator irons hold enough water to last for about 90-120 min, depending on if you are using a light or heavy flow. Many brands are also fine to use with tap water, which means you do not have to worry about distilled water – which is very handy.
You might however notice a difference in the size of the tanks and whether or not you can refill whilst using the iron. You might want to choose a model that has low-water indicator. You also need to choose if you want an iron that can have the steam turned off so that it can be used as a dry iron too. It is very handy to have a thermostat for ironing temperature and you should make sure that the iron has a continuous steam switch that locks. That makes ironing vertical items, like curtains, much easier.
You should also make sure you are happy with the sole-plate which should glide smoothly yet create enough friction to hold the material straight.
Another thing to consider is how easy the iron is to clean and of course how much you are happy to spend!
